San Pellegrino house in Umbria, Italy
A contemporary villa has sprung from the ruins of an old farmhouse in Italy’s Umbrian countryside. Its Rome-based owners inherited the old San Pellegrino building from their grandparents, but it was no longer fit for habitation. Enlisting the talents of Italian architect Pia Karin Spreafico, they created a new holiday home to sit on top of the old, and make the most of its hilltop views. And though it looks traditional from the outside, the San Pellegrino villa’s interiors blurr Scandi and Italian influences to create minimal white spaces with surprising volumes. Lofty, beamed ceilings and rustic wooden floors combine with white walls, concrete fireplaces and contemporary furniture.
